Our brain is a vital part of our bodies, as it is the storage of all of our fond memories and producer of our thoughts and actions. It works like gears in a clock, but what would happen if our mind started to stop working slowly? With June being Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, we have brain exercises you can do every day so you can keep the gears in your head in motion and avoid the possibility of entering a battle with dementia.
Memory activities can be a helpful way to keep a brain functioning as well as it can. There are even brain training apps to help keep the mind active every day. As long as the gears in the brain are spinning, you’ll be closer to keeping your brain healthy.
Brain Exercises for Your Mind’s Health
It’s never too late to keep your brain active and practice memory retention. If your loved one has Alzheimer’s disease, perform these mindful exercises with them, so both of you are taking part to keep your brains healthy. These activities and exercises can keep your brain working; they’re great to do with a loved one.
Name that tune
Music is one of the most treasured items in the world, as it is often timeless and reminds us of individual moments. Senior cares have used music interaction to keep the minds of their patients with Alzheimer’s, as certain songs spark memories for them. If you have an elderly loved one you want to keep their mind active, create a playlist and have them guess who sings the song and for an extra test, have them guess the name.
Crossword puzzles
Once you’re done reading the morning paper, take a try at the crossword puzzle. Crosswords will keep memory abilities high. Crosswords and other puzzles stimulate a different part of your brain and will keep your nerves healthy and functioning. If you and your loved one can figure out the crossword questions, your minds can start retaining more memories and information.
Child’s play
Keeping your imagination and creativity levels high at any age will help invigorate your mind as well. What a better way to get your imagination running than to play with children? Young kids tend to have vivid imaginations and can help with brain health. Play with your grandchildren or any children in the family. Have a few adventures with them. Let them take you to a creative and imaginary land, and it will keep your brain stimulated.
Brain olympics
The true test of brain strength and cognitive exercises is creating your own brain triathlon. Have your senior once or twice a day do several activities in their non-dominant hand. This activity could include brushing their teeth or writing a note. Another event to add is having them tap their right hand on the table and make a circle with their other hand at the same time. In the end, you all will end up with an energized brain.
Brain Training Apps to Add to Your Phone
While physical activities to keep the brain active are useful, technology can also help us with our active minds.
