Celebrating American’s with Disabilities Act: 26th Anniversary Fighting for the Disabled

07/18/2016

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) will be celebrating its 26th anniversary on July 26, 2016. Although 26 years may seem like a long time, the ADA still has a long road ahead of fighting for disabled person’s rights across the country and around the world.

The goal of the ADA is to improve the lives of people with disabilities. It helps disabled persons by protecting their rights, helping them find employment or use public entities and transportation. The ADA requires accessible features and technologies for disabled persons, like curb cuts near bus stations and other public utilities.

The ADA has achieved a lot in these short 26 years, but there is still a lot to do to improve the rights and lives of people with disabilities. From disability rights activists literally crawling up the steps of Capitol Hill in 1990 (known as the “Capital Crawl”) to today, the ADA has been protecting the rights of people with developmental disabilities, mental disabilities and more.

To celebrate the 26th anniversary of the ADA and continue raising awareness for the importance of disabled person’s rights, Disablity.gov will recognize this milestone by launching “26 days of the ADA: A to Z” on Twitter.

As mental health care continues to evolve in America, new bills have been put forth to build on the work that the ADA has done for disabled Americans in the last 26 years. During these legal processes that affect the lives of disabled adults across the county, Nevada Adult Day Health Care continues to provide day care for disabled adults that focus on meeting the needs of local Nevada disables citizens and senior citizens.

At Nevada Adult Day Healthcare, our mission is to not only meet individual needs of those who require daily assistance, but to also maintain their independence for as long as possible. For those looking for day programs for adults with developmental disabilities or adults with mental illness disabilities, adult day care services like Nevada Adult Day Healthcare, are the most affordable option for many families who cannot afford more extensive services.
